My favorite Holiday tradition is seeing the holiday shows at Joeβs Pub in NYC. Mx Justin Vivian Bond does their Solstice show every year, and itβs not to be missed - luckily this year it was streamed live on youtube in all itβs glory. For New Yearβs, Sandra Bernhard does her annual show and itβs always the best way to end the year. This year it was cancelled so I went back to the source. I fell in love with Sandra years ago watching Without You Iβm Nothing, the film version of her hit one-woman broadway show from 1990. I ended up watching it 2 times over my holiday break, my mind blown a little bit more each time. Sandraβs patented mix of social commentary and cabaret is unlike anything else, and Without You I Am Nothing is just as relevant now, perhaps even more so, than it was in 1990. It is currently all I can think about.

i will forever be absolutely lovesick over this show. that's the perfect word to describe this show: lovesick. and heartsick.
go see this live if you can, anywhere. yes there's the pre-show bar that brings you actually physically onto the stage, but even in the audience proper, the music, the setting, the performances, it all truly feels like you're being transported in this world. it's sensory bliss
there's something to be said for simplicity. some stories are just slices of peoples lives, even if nothing seemingly eventful is happening. it mattered to them, and that's why it matters.
took my mom to see this a while ago, her apparently being a staunch hater of the movie. she loved every second of this. do with that what you will

I watched this technicoloured masterpiece as of late and was reminded of the incredible raw connection humans have with simplicity. The lyrics are nothing complicated or logical but rather convey a sense of familiarity even when backed by an orchestra. Barbara Streisand is what really transformed the tunes, injecting them with the emotive power they used against me. Her intonation not only narratively reflects her quirky character but also illustrates her words, blurring the lines between song and singer and creating imagery rather than noise.

I am a huge musical theatre nerd. This was the first movie I ever went to see alone at a movie theater. I was 14 years old and already a smoker, a Daniel Day Lewis die hard fan, and Marion Cotillard obsessed.
I remember I watched on a weekday after school, still in my uniform. I was the only person in the room, it was like a 2pm screening on a Wednesday.
I was so brokenhearted because of my first boyfriend and he happened to LOVE musicals as well, so I bought my ticket alone and it felt like a really big girl move, to go without him to see a movie I knew he wanted to see.
I remember crying THE WHOLE MOVIE. Literally bawling my eyes out.
I learned every song.
Years later, I auditioned with a performance of βTake It Allβ for a Musical Theater Major I couldnβt sign up for because of money. Its weird because that song got me the scholarship (even tho I couldnβt go study, I did won the thing).
That day, by myself, at the movies, is a day Iβll remember forever.

Most people would (and do) describe me as βMomβ. This is likely because itβs how I refer to myself.Β More specifically, I am a Berkshires Mom or a Berkeley Mom (they are basically the same Mom). We all know her. I have spent the past 2 years house hunting in the Berkshires - no dice yet but wish me luck. I did, however, buy a car in 2020 and have been STACKING the back with Berk(shires/eley) Mom bumper stickers lately. I cannot stop buying them. This Chicken Pot Pie bumper sticker is my current favorite, but there are so many good ones on NorthernSun and PeaceProject and with every sticker I apply to my car, I get that much closer to my final form.

There just isnβt another piece of culture I love more than the Lisa Kudrow show The Comeback. It occupies space in my head completely rent free, and has since 2005 when it launched to zero fanfare on HBO. It has since become a cult favorite, had a next-level brilliant second season in 2014, and itβs script has become almost 80-85% of my vocabulary. It was a brilliant take on reality television before reality television was even a THING, and remains insanely relevant to this day. Hard to watch at times, but somehow always on my TV.

I have been collecting art my entire adult life, starting from my days 20 years ago as a student at RISD. When I see something I love, I do not hesitate to buy it. At this point, my walls have no room for more art, but that does not stop me when the art is really good. I am obsessed with my latest art purchases, these prints by LA artist Nick Pini. Abstract figures rendered with digital charcoal, giving me all the right energy and attitude. I bought Caught This For You and No Nightmares No Dreams because I instantly connected with them. I framed one of them in this Neon pink frame and itβs perfection. Ok now I want to go buy more...gotta go!
