I CAN'T STAND THE QUIET!
my first Hal Hartley film and certainly not the last. this scene was the highlight for me but i loved the weird stilted dialogue and over the top sound track for every emotional beat.
My favorite kind of movie is a kind they really went hard on in the 90s, where it’s largely just interesting characters talking to each other about ideas the whole time and the dialogue almost sounds like a play. Walk and talk movies, if you will. Hal Hartley’s are like that but dropped into these sort of fantastical, dramatic plotlines. I love them so much. Surviving Desire or Trust are perfect ones to start with.
This is one of my favorite films in terms of aesthetics. One of the final scenes is the epitome of what I want my future work to emulate. It’s really hard to articulate what it is about this film that I love, but here are some key words: bathhouse, bright and seedy colors, beautiful woman, adolescence, a stunning scene with the Can soundtrack “Mother Sky,” angst, water, sex.
tomorrow PI.FYI launches to the public
this project is the result of thousands of hours spent coding everything from scratch after I got laid off six months ago
no thiel-bucks or weirdo outsider money, just a pure desire to make something fun and true to Perfectly Imperfect’s day one goal of helping people find new things from real human beings, not algorithms or AI
a pure labor of love that I’ve been quietly plotting for two years and it’s completely self-funded from my (rapidly) dwindling savings account
so thank you for coming along for this weird ride 🫶 let's see where it goes
