4 dollar beers, blaring post punk & punk music, and a fake Chicago themed interior. What more could you wish for in a dive bar.

Great dive bar that's been around forever. I lived down the street for years when i was in college and did not appreciate it! The slightly older late 20s/30s that hung out there at the time hated me and all my friends for turning 21 and being a mess in there. It wasn't until I left and came back that i realized what had been right there in front of me. Youth wasted yet again. Anyway, they have some 600 whiskies and similar number of beers. They have a ton of special casks that disteraries make just for them. Incredible punk filled jukebox. Iconic. Be sure to have Malört at some point, there or elsewhere, do not google it, just do it. The River Architecture boat tour is a classic if it's warm enough. MCA and Art Institute are both worth a visit as well.

Looks like a 1970’s Milwaukee basement. Old Style on tap served in frosty mugs from an old Samsonite fridge. Pool table. Jukebox. Bar pretzels. Old analog TV’s with random movies playing.

in charlotte. it’s a perfect dive bar. dirty, bras tacked up on the walls, a hot pink bathroom, a non-digital jukebox that regularly has a billion pre-loaded credits for whoever to play whatever. and on top of all that, it’s a spite building in the middle of ugly modern apartments. i have considered moving to charlotte just so i could make this my regular bar. my hometown trash bar is my other favorite: slammer’s. it’s a tiny windowless box where you are equally likely to witness a drunken brawl or the entire bar singing along to “party in the USA” PLUS the gal’s bathroom is two toilets in one room with like, a tiny half wall so you can drunkenly hold hands while you pee with your friend. i have not done this but i‘d like to think that it’s an appeal for a certain kind of person.

Poet & songwriter best known as the frontman of “Silver Jews,“ and the lesser known “Purple Mountains,“ Berman has a way of exploring the beauty in the darker aspects of life. Berman tragically took his in 2019. He had such a special way with words both as a poet and a songwriter. My favorite song of his, “Famous Eyes” is linked above.

Founded in 1995, Broadcast was an English band that drew influences from 60s psychedelia, electronic, and experimental music. Following the death of their lead singer in 2011, Broadcast has found a new life and a cult following due to the mystery surrounding the band. I’ve linked my favorite album, Tender Buttons above.

Due to the involvement of the US Military Sponsoring SXSW, many bands and artists have opted to pull out of SXSW as protest for the ongoing genocide and Ethnic Cleansing in Palestine. I’m very proud of my friends from Perfectly Imperfect and Baby’s All Right for dropping out of SXSW, and for standing in solidarity with the people of Palestine. Free Palestine 🍉
