It’s Chinese new year right now and while celebrating I decided to ask my grandma how to cook one of my favourite dishes from her (her rendition of steamed egg)… this combined with the fact that shes stopped cooking for about a year now and we did not eat a meal prepped by her at the table for the first time this year. As she ages I think it’s gotten more important to learn her recipes just as something to remember her by. It’s soul food. It’s also good to learn these recipes as it really gets you connected to your culture and makes for good conversation. (Added bonus if you try to converse in your mother tongue).

whenever i visited my serbian grandparents I had the best time making my favorite food gibanica with my nana. its a cheesy eggy bake with phyllo dough and the process involves a lot of sticking your hands into cheese mush and making pockets with the phyllo dough. it was a messy sensory delight and still some of my fondest memories. the smell of roasted red peppers brings me back to their old house immediately. on my southern side, chicken and dumplins was a staple my grandfather had been making for many many decades. the smell of bacon brings me back to his house. Despite being from very different parts of the world, it was very cute how my serbian deda and southern grandpa would bond over their mutual love of pork products (particularly head cheese) despite a slight language barrier.

At the risk of sounding like a basic bitch, this shit is so real. Going down your chart on co-star and breaking down the individual aspects of your personality and reflecting on how to adapt & change is so fascinating. I love it

Crate Digging (digitally, I'm too broke to actually buy vinyl) can be a chore, and there are people out there who have been doing it for decades. NTS Radio 1 & 2 are both dope and usually between one of them I can find something I'm trying to hear Otherwise, they have a ton of infinite radio stations that are dope... poolside is probably my favorite - I could always be at the beach

subreddit for beginner DJing. youtube tutorials will be your friend. Most will recommend a DDJ FLX400 or a similar type of controller... my real question to you is why do you want to DJ if you think your music taste is "kinda-ok"?
