Recently i decided to try press-ons as a way to protect my nails from myself and manage the impulse to pick (#bfrbgang), but didnt know i would be having sooo much fun getting in touch with a sense of glamour and experimenting with femininity in a way i hadnāt beforeĀ :)

itās fun! itās an artsy, creative outlet; you get to create your own designs and stare at them once you wear them. feels so satisfying š«¶š¼ now that i have more nail supplies, i feel like iām able to make nail designs that i actually want to wear without booking an appt or trying to buy press ons in store/online. itās a hobby that i can see myself continuing.

For years I dutifully visited the salon every two weeks to paint and fill long acrylic nails that were difficult to type with, expensive and prone to fungus. Then, COVID hit. I started going to pool parties at my friend Jamie Nelsonās house, saw her luxe red talons, impervious to salon closures, and learned the secret: press on nails. They look like a full set but are cheap, long lasting, easy to apply and easy to remove when you want to do human things like type your novel or pick up a penny. Iāve tried some fun ones on Etsy but find the best quality nails are made by the brand Kiss and are widely available anywhere basic self-care sundries are sold.

And FIVE were selected for publication in the latest issue of artdoc magazine, two in their online exhibition :) I wrote my artist statement in 30 seconds because I didnāt even imagine it would be seen. Iāve struggled with confidence in my creative vision and sharing my work recently, so this is an amazing way to close out the year šš¦

The internet archive is just the greatest thing ever, i love it for the ephemeral films and lost home videos, old religious and esoteric manuscripts, textbooks, nasa photos, centuriesā worth of magazine issues, old records, lecturesā¦. š
