i have been carrying around one of these bad boys with me everywhere for a while now. sometimes you just wanna get a recording of a really good street performance or capture a bit of cafe ambience. it’s easy to use, and you can develop your own little audio diary ! it’s only backfired on me once: i was at a party and a guy i was talking to noticed i was recording and he called me a pervert (??!?!!)

This object recently came into my life. I found it on my dad’s shelf and had a listen through. It was a “conversation” between my dad and my (then) baby sister, learning to speak. I’d never been transported to another time like that before, it was like I was in the room, a feeling no photo or video had ever given me. In that moment I realised the importance of audio documentation. I’ve made a decision to record interactions on this device for the foreseeable - until it dies I suppose. -Tyler

i feel like i’m much more likely to listen to a voice memo recording than a video, but maybe that’s just me. sometimes i like taking a concert video, especially if there’s a specific song i wanna commemorate on video, but letting your phone sit in your pocket and just record is so nice n easy. also, if you’re at a concert where you’re standing, you won’t be blocking someone’s view with your phone. i <3 the voice memo app 4ever

i need a tape recorder in my back pocket. a cassette accustomed to my voice i’ll be quick on the draw and won’t have to worry anymore about my thoughts clumping together and becoming so heavy that they sink into oblivion

today i volunteered to cook and distribute with food not bombs, an org that’s been around since the 80s. they got their start doing anti war protests in massachusetts + giving out vegan meals to those in need and now there are chapters everywhere !!! look them up to see if they’re operating in your area. i just happened upon them last week in the park and asked how to get involved then i got added to a group chat :) everyone was super welcoming it was a really great atmosphere and it felt super rewarding to help out. you don’t have to cook they’ve got other sorts of jobs too if you’re not super into cutting vegetables all day :3

during covid i started a personal newsletter just amongst me and some pals of mine and iv been doing it ever since. it mostly consists of digital collages - just a whole bunch of images iv been looking at and blocks of text iv been reading layered on top of one another… sometimes i‘ll throw in a little comic i drew :) it’s fun !

this only works if it's a party you didn't want to go to in the first place so you are immune to fomo... there's something special about just staying at home and smoking and playing your music aloud on the speaker without having to worry about curating songs that make you seem like less of a ridiculous person...
