An early beta user of PI.FYI, knguyen, captured the essence of this site and the community really well with this :) you can read it here It’s not about the post itself, but the act of posting. Which is to say, in the worldview of PI.FYI, you aren’t what you eat. You’re what you tell other people to eat.

Joined today because of the article. I've enjoyed curated recommendations before. They're particularly valuable in my big city of Los Angeles where the possibilities are endless and often, opaque.

so true tho: “I don’t think we’re the things that we like. You’re not, like, an individual because you like Poor Things,” he says, pushing back. “But you are an individual because you decided to share that you like to go on a walk when you’re stressed out or, ‘This is how I like to fall asleep at night.’ Those are kinds of recommendations that are a little bit more abstract and not media product focused that I think actually do paint a picture of what you are like.”

The Internet used to be a place we didn't have constant access to like we do now, and it's almost hard to remember that world. Months ago, I deleted all my social media apps to try and lower my screen time. When that wasn't enough, I got a flip phone. When that stopped being conducive to my quality of life in our "smartphone or bust" chronically online society, I returned to the social media appless iPhone I had before. I'm not an "I don't have social media person," though. I use Instagram.com and Tumblr.com and Pinterest.com and it's great. I "go online" exclusively on my laptop, and I think pi.fyi is such an awesome website! It's social networking more than it's social media to me, and I'm not sure how many other sites I acknowledge the distinction with. Shout out to everyone on here (and the staff ofc). This is a very cool cyberspace to occupy.

It's a great website run by people who love the web. So when they did a feature on PI.FYI, I paid attention.

tomorrow PI.FYI launches to the public this project is the result of thousands of hours spent coding everything from scratch after I got laid off six months ago no thiel-bucks or weirdo outsider money, just a pure desire to make something fun and true to Perfectly Imperfect’s day one goal of helping people find new things from real human beings, not algorithms or AI a pure labor of love that I’ve been quietly plotting for two years and it’s completely self-funded from my (rapidly) dwindling savings account so thank you for coming along for this weird ride 🫶 let's see where it goes
