I am a teacher and just came back from year 9 camp and honestly seeing Year 9 girls at the final night disco (lol) gather together in a circle and scream lyrics they love, whilst wearing crop tops and sweats, long hair everywhere, clutching at their hearts and each other and singing so dramatically and passionately I was like yeah, you guys are the best. Also some of them are terrifyingly mean. They are able to shred my sense of self into ribbons with just one cunty response- but I kinda think that is great too.

listen, middle school sucks. i agree. BUT! hear me out!! teaching middle schoolers is a genuinely entertaining career. i think they get such a bad rap because no one really has fond memories of being 13, which makes sense!! going from child to teen and not even really being a teen yet is difficult and confusing. not fun! but they still have the most random childlike shenanigans that i love to be apart of. they are little humans who shock me with an f bomb every now and then but also make me origami and paper crowns, and it gives me a reason to wake up in the morning.

thank you to #her btw i hope she's doing well in life (fingers crossed she isnt here). but i had an intense crush on this girl from grade school until high school and the lengths i went through just for her to even notice me.... i wasn't even out then i was only out to a few of my friends. did i learn the drums just to be in the same club as her? yeah. do i regret doing all of that?? fuck no LOL also there was a time during those years, they made up this dumb rule that students weren't allowed to hug or hold hands with eo like we were spreading some kind of gay agenda??

it‘s one of those things you can only recommend with a million caveats (namely, are you ready to make very little money? are you okay with never being able to get your job off your mind? are you down to be the center of local and national Political Discourse and Angst?) but at the end of the day, i really do Love My Job. i teach high school math so my highlights and bright spots are a bit different than say, an elementary art teacher, but the kids really are so funny and i love watching the growth that happens throughout the course of a high schooler’s career. not just academically but personally. so much of high school isn’t just about What you want to be but Who you want to be and i love getting to be a part of that. anyway here is a drawing a student of mine left on his test today that made me giggle—i adore these kids and they really do make the long hard frustrating days worthwhile 🫶🏻🫶🏻

Ok I don’t know if I can articulate just how good this recc is but I’ll try. For some reason when the moon is full I can stand and look at it wherever it may be in the sky and just think ahhh everything will be ok. I feel still and calm. I am tiny they are big: a glowing beauteous reassuring orb. I then check on it, consistently peeking out my window through the night to make sure it’s still there. like a parent checking on their bab. I love that it’s there! I love that it affects the oceans. I love that we can see the patterns on its face. If I had to choose between living on the moon or Mars id choose neither because I never not want the chance to see it from afar. I like it as a crescent all the same or when it’s brand new and you see its shadow but god dammit when it’s full it is meaningful and magnificent.
