I remember begging my Mum to pre-order this album for me, to add to my chronological collection of Coldplay albums (I had found the majority of them in charity shops.)
Sonically, Ghost Stories was a major shift from their previous release, Mylo Xyloto, which featured stadium belters like Paradise and Princess of China. Mr. Martin was going through his "conscious uncoupling" with Paltrow, and let's just say it really showed.
I love how contemplative this record is, it's pure yearning. Choir vocals washed in reverb accompanied by lowly strummed guitar and 808's that feel like catching a chill at the nape of your neck.
If you're a fan of Parachutes by Coldplay (Coldplay's first record and the album everyone back-handedly compliments as "actually good") give Ghost Stories a go.
