A therapist told me once that when I was despairing about the world (which is always) to do something small that can make a difference to someone else - she suggested buying a street newspaper, but I will also give money to someone who asks, tip my barista well, bring in my neighbor’s garbage cans, say thank you and mean it.

(Disclaimer: I’m plagiarizing my recs from the Yale wellbeing course I recommended) This is harder than socializing! Pick a day and do five good deeds for other people. It’s best if you do it face to face, of course. I don’t have great ideas for this one, but buying something for someone else gives you a boost. Even if it’s just $5 There’s also this huge one that has a major impact but requires bravery: write a note or letter to someone telling them how much you appreciate them. Give it to them in person and stay while they read it. Takes courage but scientifically speaking it’s very very good for you (and them)
