Don’t celebrate them. Just feel them and silently rock out with yourself. If you do celebrate with friends. Put red food dye in your mouth and take a sip of a gin and tonic so it looks like you are bleeding from your gums.

i say TRY it. see if it feels okay in the first few hours of ur day and if it doesn't, pivot! go outside, get ur favorite drink or watch ur favorite movie. i treat birthdays as a personal ritual. what do i love??? what do i wanna do on a perfect day??? incorporate that idealogy into your time and know that alone birthdays are no less special. if anything, it's a day to reset/realign and esp for a 20th!! think about what u wish and hope for in this new decade of life. and than whenever ur friends get back, throw the most fun party <3

birthdays have been existentially miserable to me for pretty much my entire adult life but for the past couple of years I’ve felt pretty neutral about them. I’m not really doing anything to celebrate today but I’m not despondent either and that feels like a win to me. I think it’s actually okay for it to be just a day but my goal next year turning 30 is to try to care a little more about it and find that happy medium perhaps
