I was browsing the calendar app yesterday and realized how quickly Fat Tuesday is approaching (March 4th). I haven’t been a practicing catholic since I was around 12yrs old, but I still do lent every year because it teaches me a lot about myself and it feels good to work on accomplishing a goal along with other people. It helps keep me accountable! In high school I chewed so much gum that it made my jaw ache. I gave it up for lent one year and now it’s so rare for me to chew a piece of gum. That’s so cool to me! Typically, I give up one of my eternal loves: ice cream or Coke. However, this year I’m facing my fears and giving up my true vice… weed. My family usually does lent on lazy mode (we let ourselves have whatever it is we gave up on Sundays), but this year I’m going hard mode just to see what I can achieve.

the original dry january! i'm not a practicing christian and haven't done lent since i was like 10 but i decided to try out lent this year just to see if i could give up something trivial for a while. i have a major sweet tooth so i decided to give up candy. im excited to see how i do and its kind of fun to microdose catholicism after being off the horse for while. try it out with something you really like but can also realistically live without (sweets, fast food, screen time, texting boys, etc.)
