It feels therapeutic - creative but in a mindless flowy way. Recommend for anyone with a creative block or wanting to reconnect to your own artistic tastes. I did my first one as a prompt from The Artists Way, and now I use it as a way to do something with the old Literary Supplement papers my dad keeps giving me. It’s cool to see your tastes shift over time in what you choose to stick down. Here’s my latest:

I'm not really good at any visual art forms, but I made a pretty big collage for my friend's birthday, and it was just fun following my instincts on what to put together, seeing where I could place an inside joke, and just telling a story in a way I usually wouldn't. Hours went by before I even realized how long I'd been working on it. I just listened to music, cut up magazines, rubbed glue into my hands, fucked around with a bunch of markers, and it was pretty chill. I'd recommend anyone who struggles with visual art to give it a try, you might surprise yourself, but you also might just have fun, which is worth it to me. It's making me consider learning how to do it digitally.

I used to be obsessed with collaging as a kid, and recently got back into it. It's fun, low-stakes, and you can use anything you have lying around. Now, I only give my friends collaged birthday cards.
