The best compliments for me are always really specific. in those moment I feel really seen, and it’s the being seen I think rather than the necessarily the compliment that hits! Three examples:
- my producer when working on my EP said “you have a great ear, Nancy”
- a guy in my writers group when I’d not long joined told me “the comments you make on others’ work is always a joy to listen to and I always find myself agreeing. you can tell it comes from compassion not judgement”
- my boyfriend when we’d just started seeing each other said “i like the texture of your brain” and then made a meme of his shitposting page saying “your brain texture pleases me”. that was the height of romance.

absolutely nothing sexier or more caring than deciding to give someone your rapt and undivided attention in a world full of distracting bright flashing things where everyone at any given moment is consuming two or three things at once. plus the feeling of someone remembering something minor you said super offhandedly (like a childhood anecdote or a snack you were craving) and bringing it up in conversation again days later makes you feel so seen and understood, literally the loveliest feeling ever.

you know the glow someone has when they’re talking about something they love/are interested in. gets me every single time. it’s so spellbinding.
and the last friend i had a crush on, took my word as gospel. i would mention a song to him and in front of me he would save the song and the album, add it to his favourite playlist and do a proper listen to the artist and tell me all about his favs when we would see next. same with movies, i made him a list of some of my favs and he would watch them and report back in depth to me.

Unique piercings or tattoos are really attractive, or if they do their make up like art and not generically (is that a word?)
Unique noses, too! Or when one tooth is missing or their teeth are crooked, i think thats attractive.
Raspy or soothing voices, when they speak calmly and at ease
I love when a person has big people word vocabulary and knows how to use it. intelligence is really attractive, and it's cute sometimes when they do it in a ☝️🤓 way. When they know more than 1 language, aswell
God, when they have "grandma" hobbies like crocheting or baking, maybe even reading (Using grandma really loosely in this context)
