it is so freeing to not have your ear to the ground of what is on trend or hip for the time being, and tbh I have saved myself a lot of time, money, and perhaps sanity for just not leaning into being too plugged in, some tangible examples: - no flimsy impulse purchases, mainly tangible well made things (clothing, electronics, furniture) - reading very little, but just enough news to know whatā€™s going on, avoid entertainment news/snark/discourse machines - do things cause I feel like it (dance, laugh loudly, smile) and enjoy it all, never act like Iā€™m above it all

not being uncool either, just letting go of the concept of 'coolness' entirely. it's not real! there's no objective metric of it! it's way too easy to do things just cuz u think they'll make u seem cool, instead of doing things u actually like.

Maybe itā€™s just my frontal lobe developing but Iā€™ve been really simplifying the aesthetics of my life latelyā€¦ no more dyed hair or heavy makeupā€¦ pared back outfits, plain nails and switching auto-caps back onā€¦. Investing in the quality and durability of things/people in my life rather than the folly of aesthetic currency. Theres something awesome about feeling like Iā€™m enough as a person on the inside without trying so hard to reflect it on the outside. I donā€™t have to be the most interesting person in a room anymore! I can just be :)

My favorite thing in getting to know new people is finding out the things they enjoy that seem a bit out of character. I think itā€™s comforting and a bit sexy when not everything that they like has to be ā€œcoolā€ for them to really enjoy it. Being self-assured and knowing your worth is hot. After all, life is too short to try and shape yourself around a mould that doesnā€™t truly resonate with you. Just enjoy the things that bring you joy without caring if they are basic or lame to others. you can enjoy the band that everyone hates, enjoy the movies that people think are overrated, and wear the shirt that went out of style 5 years ago. true authenticity is a rare trait, always has been. Itā€™s like striking gold when you find that inner peace to just be yourself, regardless of how cringy others find it. Find the peace to like what you like without shame.
