I’m not usually a competition show person but I’m loving this — Alan Cumming is transcendently good as the host, with his fancy Scottish outfits and bright blue reading glasses and DRAMA! This show also makes me think about the famous prison experiment where some people were cast as prisoners and some as guards and they literally had to end the experiment early because the guards got so power crazed and cruel. Don’t worry the Traitors does not reach close to that level of twisted, it’s just fascinating to watch the dynamics and strategic game play, and makes ya think. And it doesn’t hurt that it’s set in a literal castle.

thank u Cam for rec-ing this to me. I'm not a big reality tv person (kind of a shocker, no?), but Traitors is soooooo good wow. it's a mafia/vote people off the island-type show but the people on it are from all different reality tv shows (housewives, the challenge, big brother, survivor, drag race, etc.) and it's randomly hosted by Alan Cumming and it's like weird Clue-themed and in Scotland with crazy accents and costumes in a Knives Out-ass house and the editing is truly out of this world funny.

I’ve been absolutely locked into The Traitors (US) as of late - it’s like if a game of Mafia came to life in a reality competition show, where they bring on celebrities from other famous shows and sects of pop culture to compete to eliminate the assigned traitors in the house. I sat down with a couple friends and binged through the entire first season last weekend on an especially rainy day, and have been keeping up with the current second season (episodes drop every Thursday on Peacock!) Highly highly recommend for any fans of good old fashioned reality competition drama.

Even if you have other creative pursuits that require your brain to work, it’s fun to have one that requires very little thought or attention. I started crocheting a couple years ago and it’s perfect while sitting in front of the TV or listening to a podcast or just zoning out. Makes me feel productive even as my brain melts out my ears, and makes me feel creative even when I’m not doing any cooler, more challenging projects that require more of my energy.
