They make some beautiful steel frame bikes that donāt weigh a ton.
Edit:
I should also mention they are typically a decent bit less $$$$$ than the big names like Trek, cannondale, etc
Like an old Cadillac, they arenāt the fastest or most efficient, but Iāll be damned if you can find a more stylish or comfortable ride out there than a high end steel bike from the late 80ās or early 90ās. Those old touring and mountain frames are capable of handling almost any conditions and generally simple to repair, highly recommended for a solid commuter or all-rounder.
If you know what youāre looking for, sometimes youāll stumble upon a real steal. My Miyata 615-GT (little sister to the legendary Miyata 1000) shown here came off Craigslist for $200.
ridley has a broad selection of steel frames designed for gravel bikes. most of their models are ātube framedā which makes the bike look like a vintage bike from the 80s.
if youāre looking for a more modern steel frame with a really good gear group (shimano grx) iād recommend the rose background.
but rose also offers an old school steel frame. the model is called hobo and is close to what ridley looks like.
Iām finally putting a roof over the deck I built a couple years ago. Iāve probably screwed up a number of things with it, but seeing as it will never have much, if any, substantial weight on it Iām not worried.
Thereās something special about creating things with your own hands that feels fantastic, regardless of how āperfectā it is.
Either fries, hash browns, potato gnocchi, Pierogis, potato pancakes, or just a regular ole friggin potato. anything so long as it has potatoes.
There, world peace for everyone.
