Did I apply as a quarter life crisis moment? Maybe a little but wow! I love school! I love being a student! Academia rocks! Getting to learn from experts is a treat and a privilege and it’s so nice!

currently in grad school and it feels sorta the same as undergrad like, structure wise? classes feel the same, assignments feel very similar. but way more focused on the subjects YOU have chosen to learn about. i think it is a little heavier in terms of workload and general availability of free time but it's a quick adjustment. i also think the bonds you form w your classmates are way stronger (although i'm in a cohort model so that may just be me!) overall i'm very glad i committed to grad school as someone who once said they would never go :)

I went back to school in 2020 to persue a career in a field I’ve wanted to be in for prob 2 decades. I went to college right out of high school but it didn’t work for me at that time, I got terrible grades and gave up despite being a high achieving straight A student before. I just finished my program and graduated in May and started a new job at a big name firm and to say I’m a little spooked is accurate. Not finishing my degree all those years ago was a source of shame for me and I’m finding myself putting a lot of pressure on myself because the accomplishment is so personally significant. The learning curve of a new job is always steep and feels like you’re flailing a bit, and I can only believe that new career will be that same feeling, amplified. Trying to feel confident, trust that I am in fact capable, and not like I’m about to be found out. 🫠 Go for it! The scary parts are required! Personal growing pains mean you're trying and expanding.

I was going through the Ignatian approach to education today (adapted from the Spiritual Exercises for those keeping track at home) and this tenet is just so good. St. Ignatius says that a person, “ought to be more eager to put a good interpretation on a neighbor’s statement than to condemn it.Further, if one cannot interpret it favorably, one should ask how the other means it. If the meaning is wrong, one should correct the person with love; if this is not enough, one should search out every  appropriate means through which, by understanding the statement in a good way, it may be saved.” This is very Hanlon’s razor (never attribute to malice what you can attribute to stupidity/ignorance) and I just feel like having a curious posture like this is a major slay and makes us better people
