I love seeing someone with a talent or something they’ve been working on or maybe an old neglected passion take their skill around the block for a spin. like watching a jazz artist play around with their guitar or Whitney Houston letting it rip or going as fast as you can on your bike. it can be anything. sketch book, cast iron pan, running shoes, dancing shoes, a new pen. let’s see what this baby can do

This is my number one hobby at the moment, before this I spent years trying something, being bad and immediately giving up. Last year I learned how to drive a manual (again) as an adult. Humbling! public embarrassment! bunny hopping, stalling, hill starts. But the whole time I was laughing and having the best time because I knew at some point I’d be able to do it. Now I don’t even think about it when I’m driving I’m just there to hoon around and change my little gears — then today I stalled it out of nowhere and I was like yeah! There it is! my favourite little reminder that you can learn things as an adult and it not be so horrific that you have to give up. It’s funny to be bad and it almost doesn’t last long enough.
Bringing this energy into heaps of different things now — I love to be bad at playing basketball and playing bass and swimming.

One day I'm super into boxing, the next I'm buying a bike. I'm writing 1/4 of a screenplay, I'm learning to make 4-5 fancy cocktails. I'm ordering a jump rope, a kendama, a yo-yo. I'm attempting to learn tennis by hitting a ball against a wall for half an hour (once).
Picking up hobbies and then dropping them after a few tries is nothing to be ashamed of. It should not discourage you for fear of being called a quitter or flippant. The secret is knowing that you're better for getting out there and ceaselessly pursuing further opportunities for joy in your life.
