This was perfect on all levels, dialogues and especially the monologues I can't even begin to describe how emotionally invested I was while watching, cried 5 times. I haven't seen Nocturnal Animals but I have to watch it next to see this kind of cinematography from Tom Ford again. The changes in saturation were timed in such a way that you just felt the scenes. Sad gays, the best genre of people ngl.

I watched this claustrophobic first date movie during the lockdowns and it's stuck with me ever since. I've never seen a movie where the inability to connect due to long-calcified adult neuroticisms and insecurities take centre stage, and is executed so well. Also when you can no longer rely on the looks and charms of your 20s-30s to keep yourself from being alone on a Friday night... when you have to get honest with yourself and others about who you are in order to connect... when your interests and quirks become so niche out of prolonged loneliness that connecting with someone again seems impossible, when in reality it's so possible, you just need to give yourself and others a little bit of grace... I'd love to see the play version of this.

This was a truly horrid thought I had the other day when I was walking over the river while marveling at the water, the city lights, cars, and people. Scrolling and walking do have similarities and realizing this was valuable to me. Scrolling simulates visual stimuli moving across our field of vision as we navigate a digital landscape. Taking a walk outside, making dinner, talking to a friend in person, or even just wandering around my apartment have all worked to minimize scrolling urges for me. They all also tend to involve the movement of my visual field with constant new stimuli. Its also important to note that none of these tasks require intensive demands to focus attention. If I want to doom scroll I probably want to relax my brain from concentrated attention while engaging in a repetitive task. Just walking around my apartment is better than scrolling and often more realistic than reading. Finding ways to relax and procrastinate without using screens may seem counter-intuitive but I think it gives me more freedom. Plus I have never regretted going on a walk.
