a thoughtful adventure game with beautiful, serene graphics based on Scandinavian folklore. the protagonist Tove is trying to rescue her brother, but really the whole story is about her processing the loss of her mom 🥺

like a choose your own adventure story written with such poetic beauty, with elements of magic-based collage. It’s one of only two games that have made me cry (the other being Spiritfarer).

THE COSMIC WHEEL SISTERHOOD!!!! - I’ve rec’d it before cause it’s so good, if you love a good story this is defo for you. Its so so gorgeous (pic below is from it). You’re a witch who’s been in exile for centuries, who summons a demon to help. Choose your own adventure style story game with elements of collage (you make your own oracle cards).
Night in the woods - a weird lil walking sim story game that feels like a graphic novel. Existential and dark and mysterious.
Wylde Flowers - a cosy witchy farming and story game. i find pure farming/management sims a bit boring but this has a linear storyline which kept me entertained.
Spiritfarer - such a moving game unlike anything else I’ve played since. You play as a psychopomp ferrying souls into the afterlife and carrying out their final wishes.
Also if you wanted to get into more RPGs, I just finished Sea of Stars. It’s an adventure RPG with gorgeous pixel art. It’s made to have the nostalgia of old 90s RPGs, but you’d definitely be able to appreciate it without having played them. It has combat, but it’s turn based which might be easier for someone who isn’t as good at combat, and there’s relics you pick up that you can activate to make the fighting easier. Turn based combat in general is probably the way to go if you wanna move into fighting games!

If you’ve ever felt trapped in a small town, had to drop out and come home, or worked a shitty job while living with your parents, this game is perfect.
I’ve never seen a piece of media that better captures what it’s like to be part of a messy, goofy, queer, working class friend group.
You play a recent drop out, Mae, who wakes up at 4 pm to wander around her hometown and hang out with her friends. There’s a mystery too, but I won’t go into that here.
The design is simple and beautiful. The game pays tribute to the history of unions, mining towns, and working class folks in the rust belt. It tackles the questions of “is there a god?” and “if so, do they care?” in such complex and earnest ways.
It touches on death, mental health, abuse, money problems. The characters are genuinely flawed and struggle with very real things. They’re also little talking animals. Did I mention this game is mostly jokes?
There’s a lot to be found if you go home and pay attention.

being sincere is in, thinking you’re always the most interesting person in the room is OUT.
take the opportunity to learn from this random human you have crossed paths with at the function. make a big impact with a little, casual convo. what are they into? how did they get into their line of work? what did they eat that day? what is their biggest fear? (lol) small talk is only shallow if you let it be.
tell someone working in a super busy place that they’re doing great and you hope they get a breather soon. compliment an outfit you like when you see it. tell someone when you notice their beautiful smile. quick interactions =/= insignificant

very satisfying to prolong the life of things in a world where not very many things are made to last. just applied renovating cream to my blundstones. cleaning my car, sewing up holes or tears in clothing, trimming the wicks of candles, and using slip-on covers for old books fall into this category too
