yes to the first two books, no to the rest. shit goes off the rails imo - I’m not here for incestual vibes, resurrecting favorite characters and completely changing them, and allowing the author to philosophize on and on with no plot momentum or realized characters 👀

i think more people are reading dune as a result of dune: part two being released but as a certified dune head (read all books and is regularly fights with people on the dune subreddit) i highly recommend that you read all six books. yes they’re a little political jargony but if you take the time to really read them and discover the universe i promise it’s so rewarding. there’s also just a lot of fun stuff like people worm fusions and child cult leaders and the last part has a lesbian space sex matriarchy trying to take over the universe!!(don’t read the brain herbert books tho they’re not that good)

I wouldn’t say it’s a particularly good adaptation or movie. But the visuals and set design are an opulent maximalism that should be seen and appreciated.
Lynch made some baffling additions to the story and world that undermine the central themes in the books. On plus side, the practical effects are astonishing, Alia is the unsettling little creep she’s supposed to be, generous amount of worms, the Atreides royal pug, and Sting in a winged codpiece.

I've been slogging through the whole Dune series and I'm finally on the last book. The universe if fascinating but it's convinced me Herbert is not a good writer (but has a lovely imagination). Some entires in this series could have been an email.

being sincere is in, thinking you’re always the most interesting person in the room is OUT.
take the opportunity to learn from this random human you have crossed paths with at the function. make a big impact with a little, casual convo. what are they into? how did they get into their line of work? what did they eat that day? what is their biggest fear? (lol) small talk is only shallow if you let it be.
tell someone working in a super busy place that they’re doing great and you hope they get a breather soon. compliment an outfit you like when you see it. tell someone when you notice their beautiful smile. quick interactions =/= insignificant

very satisfying to prolong the life of things in a world where not very many things are made to last. just applied renovating cream to my blundstones. cleaning my car, sewing up holes or tears in clothing, trimming the wicks of candles, and using slip-on covers for old books fall into this category too
