I love the warm Portra 400 tones, especially for portraits, and it’s great for nature too. If you’re shooting black and white, HP5+ is relatively cheap and really forgiving/versatile!
It’ll run you ~$100 but I love this point and shoot, and it doesn’t require batteries! But film is expensive. I’d recommend sticking to Kentmere B&W.
Digital is 100% cheaper but I don’t have good inexpensive suggestions. I go all in on the highend 😅 You could always try to find my first ever camera: the Kodak MC3
