I’m lazy but I also like to have my files organized. Whether it’s notes, photos, or drafts of projects I’m working on. Labeling my stuff with this date format let’s me create files and put them wherever with minimal effort, and I can easily recall stuff by just sorting them by name. And I don’t have to rely on a janky filter like “created by” “ modified by” etc. (This rec was published on 20240316) Bonus tip: my friend likes to simplify it even further, he prefers YYMMDD (240316). Typically we steer clear from dots (24.03.16) or dashes (24-03-16) for formatting/compatibility issues when moving/sharing files around.

I put reminders into my phone for a notification of the exact time I need to remember the thing. For example, if on Friday I need to swing by the store and pick something up before work, I will put a notification into my calendar to remind me before I head out the door. If someone communicates something I need to remember later that day, or a week from now, or a month from now, I just treat myself like I won’t remember and put it in the calendar right then and there. This is really, really helpful if you have ADHD, btw. Usually I actually do remember, but there are times where I don’t and I’m glad that I have the back up reminder. I shared with a friend how I do this and she was blown away, so I thought I would share this little tip that might make your life easier!

I guess this is less a rec, more just what works for me. When I'm in really busy eras I have a night where I actually handmake a few months worth of calendars (like literally with a marker, and a ruler, and heavy paper). I hang them up on the wall, and I just start filling them up. When the busy-ness fades I take the months down and keep them. Also cool because you have an analog record of what you did for a while.

I keep a dumb amount of notes in Evernote. When I’m out and someone tells me about something cool, I often put it there, but when it’s something really good I drop the link in my calendar for a time when I know I’ll be more idle. Helps me tons with keeping my circle full.

The great improv trope. To always leave room for new ideas, even if you’re not sure. Isn’t that what life’s all about? Creating delight out of whatever mix you’re in.

Every time I unlock my phone, I unintentionally go down a rabbit hole of apps & notifications, forgetting why I picked it up in the first place. I’m today years old learning that I can access spotlight search on my phone’s lock-screen (which means i can access apps and call people without actually having to unlock my phone) - STEP 1: Swipe down while on your lock screen - STEP 2: Type name of app you want to open or enter contact name

Jeans give me a sense of firmness. Sometimes when I’m “too” comfortable, jeans give me a sense of structure where I feel less like a slob. Discomfort in general. Pushing yourself. Expanding your threshold, stamina, skills.
