how would you feel if someone gave you a task at your job 10 minutes before you were supposed to leave and you had to stay to finish it and also you couldn’t rush it you had to take as long as the other person told you to ? i’ll assume not great. I was a host at a restaurant for a while and servers and line cooks and managers would all be annoyed. could be different place to place, But generally speaking, your service and food will be better if there’s no rush

Yeaaahhh not the best, some spots will do it (sometimes begrudgingly). on a busy night it can be fine and good to get more people seated before close, but on a slow boring night the kitchen has probably already been breaking down and everyones ready to go home. Also I don't think it seems like a fun experience to order in less than 10 minutes hahah

largely depends on the restaurant bc when they stop serving food and when they kick folks out isn’t standardized across the entire industry, if it feels like you’re cutting it close i’d make a courtesy call and let the staff decide, because if they have a heads up and say they’ll still seat you it isn’t a dick move otherwise for sure lol

being sincere is in, thinking you’re always the most interesting person in the room is OUT. take the opportunity to learn from this random human you have crossed paths with at the function. make a big impact with a little, casual convo. what are they into? how did they get into their line of work? what did they eat that day? what is their biggest fear? (lol) small talk is only shallow if you let it be. tell someone working in a super busy place that they’re doing great and you hope they get a breather soon. compliment an outfit you like when you see it. tell someone when you notice their beautiful smile. quick interactions =/= insignificant

very satisfying to prolong the life of things in a world where not very many things are made to last. just applied renovating cream to my blundstones. cleaning my car, sewing up holes or tears in clothing, trimming the wicks of candles, and using slip-on covers for old books fall into this category too
