i think that it takes a while to curate? your tiktok feed. i think ive had it since it was musically and i barely even look at my ’following’ feed anymore because ive had it so long that the fyp is perfectly curated to me. try to search up music, movies or anything that you like and even if you don’t like any of the posts or follow any of the accounts, they will affect your fyp and what you see. i think it’s just a matter or searching up topics, liking a few posts or following people and then your fyp will like assign you a certain category or archetype and give you similar posts to that. it’s a struggle to get through though because the ’beginner/first’ tiktok posts you see are so stupid and annoying 😭

Not sure if it’s cool to recommend my own Instagram account but the fact of the matter is, is that Tik Tok is a huge part of my life (not sure how I feel about that statement) and I can’t recommend the whole app of Tik Tok. I actually DON’T recommend anyone download Tik Tok - it’s confusing, scary and demented. Personally, I like all that kind of stuff (raised on a computer - i’ve seen it all, I’m numb, jaded, etc) so this is how I can filter and showcase what I believe is the best of the best, which also usually happens to be the worst. I made this account in April to show my coworkers on How To my favorite Tik Toks I was finding without flooding the group chat (it was getting to be A LOT…). It kind of spiraled into a deep fascination with what kids are doing online creatively and socially - I became addicted, obsessed and a half a year later now have like over 10k Tik Toks saved to my phone and an entire community I’ve cultivated and love deeply. Follow because there are big things coming soon and most certainly I will be demanding producer credits on at least 5 new TV shows and indie films..lol

So i recently I've deleted tiktok, again. I deleted in 2020 then re-download it 4 years later when a friend reminded me that I never actually got rid of my account. I hear a lot of people say "I want to delete but i cant cuz I learn so much!", or "I able see this niche thing I can't find anywhere else!". And that's fair to an extent but it's an algorithm. You didn't "find" anything. You enjoy being fed your slop instead of finding it yourself. I think this is fine! I found this amazing site through tiktok myself. I just hate when ppl complain about something that's supposedly causing them more harm then good, but still go back to said thing. If you really care about a topic, you WILL find an alternative way to consume that topic. For instance, I like saving recipes and tiktok can be good for that. However, tiktok also makes me want to kms so I will use Pinterest instead. Or I like watching lifestyle content so I'll go on YouTube instead. Obviously other platforms have their own issues but if you really wanted to leave the app, you would've but you don't because ur addicted to the slop and u hve fomo.

doomscrolling the fyp sometimes makes me want to crawl out of my skin to give my brain a rinse. but my following page ? i realized i haven’t followed anyone new since 2020 so scrolling my following has somehow captured the fun of that period (so much cred too to those creators still out here bodying their niche years later)

Jenny Nicholson is the god of youtube essays so you probably already know her Also Defunctland does a lot about adandoned theme parks/the muppets and jim henson projects and disney (not a fan a disney but even his videos in disney are great) strange æons has done some great videos on onision that were good and i used to watch them a lot but can’t remember anything other than the onision book review videos so that’s all i can recommend from them but Jenny Nicholson is the greatest - I’m not even interested in most of the topics she covers but she’s so interesting? entertaining and compelling Also Jenny Nicholson always commits to the video by completely involving herself in the topic not just for the video but in her real life and learning like every bit of lore for what she’s covering
