Getting to try some sample size fragrances for a decent price before you delve into the full size bottle is really where itâs at. Many fragrance websites offer this option, but if you donât see it on the site, you could try emailing and inquire about samples and whether you can buy any.
Sampling some unique and complex fragrances that end up lasting a while, you really get to switch it up.

a low-cost low-commitment way to smell wonderful scents and discover new brands. i order them from brand websites or big online warehouses like luckyscents or twisted lily. i also keep samples in all my purses, my car, my makeup bag, my bfâs house, everywhere. theyâre tiny and perfectly portable so you can always have them on hand in case of emergency. youâd also be surprised how long some of them can last, which is great if you donât have like $200+ to drop on a full size fragrance. and if i donât like one i just give it to a friend!

I love fragrance so much but finding the perfect one is on par with executing a clinical trial (in my mind). I get the ick from perfumes easily if theyâre not đŻ perfect so instead of committing to a full bottle after trying a fragrance once or twice, I often opt for ordering samples. Itâs a great way to trial scents, see how they interact with you, and if youâre obsessed and heartbroken đ when the sample is out thatâs definitely a signâŠ

le labo, ds & durga, and plenty of the other indie perfumers sell samples of their perfumes for like $3 a sample! luckyscent.com also has decants of like any scent you could want. buy a sample pack and try different scents out till you find one or two you really like. then think about what aspect of the scent you like, and buy other perfumes samples with similar notes. once you find one you really love, buy a bottle!
you may find that some scents work best during the night but feel overwhelming for work, or maybe they smell great in the summer but are a little too floral and fresh for winter⊠half the fun of perfumes :)

The other night I fell asleep on the couch around 10:00 pm watching Joseph Campbellâs Mythos I. I woke up around 4:30 am, washed my face and brushed my teeth.
This invigorated me to the point that I basically wasnât falling back asleep, so I ended up looking up different brands of finishing salts for two hours in bed.
Fleur De Sel and Maldon Sea Salts are not salts that you want to cook with, but that you want to sprinkle atop things as âfinishing saltsâ.
In my research I discovered that GuĂ©rande or Camargue fleur de sels are top brands to use. And with Maldon, the brand just called Maldon. I have Maldon sea salts and also Sal de Ibiza fleur de sel which is really good. It comes in a ceramic pot with a little spoon. I recommend both and you donât need a lot, a little goes a long way.

Vegetables.
Pastas.
Meats if you do that.
Watermelon or mango.
A chocolate chip cookie, fresh from the oven, topped with Maldon sea salt. I linked Alison Romanâs recipe above for Salted Butter and Chocolate Chunk Shortbread Cookies above. Warning: these cookies may horn you for life, and cause you to eat many. If you give them to people theyâll keep asking you to make them over and over again. Perfect trifecta of sweet but not too sweet, savory, and salty.
A little toast with mashed avocado, sliced tomate, Maldon sea salt or fleur de sel on top. Can also serve with scrambled egg on the side with some Green Pepper Cholula on top (green flame emoji).
A warm blueberry muffin, or toasted croissant (I pronounce this with an audible ârâ) cut in half, some vegan (Miyokoâs, Earth Balance Soy Free) or whatever other (Kerrygold) butter melted in the middle, and a little fleur de sel or Maldon sea salt.

Itâs nice to let the afternoon sun come in while you relax in a soothing salt bath, maybe some essential oils, a lil masque. A little diffuse sunlight makes it nice.
