where i am, there’s a big open gallery art event the first saturday of the month. you can just walk from gallery to gallery downtown for the evening.
it’s easy and encouraged to talk to a gallery manager. they are there to tell people about the space, so you can walk up and literally say “tell me about this place!” and off they go. i often find that an artist or two is hanging around them as well at which point you can strike convos ab their experiences and inspiration and all that
also helps to drag a friend or two so it’s not as much holding a drink in the corner, but remember most everyone who goes to events is there for the social aspect, and is more than willing to chat with like minded people. if someone looks interested in something you find interesting, just ask them about it (:

If you love art why not go a little deeper and go to an artist talk. They usually happen on Saturdays and are so insightful. I always learn something new and leave inspired. Definitely good for introverts as sometimes I get nervous to go to big art gallery openings that usually happen the night before.

I recommend an exhibition/gallery/museum for a first friend date. You get to talk about what you're looking at and what you like and what you don't and that leads to loads of tangent conversation opportunities. And you can have a coffee after and walk around a bit and decide what you would buy from the gift shop if you had unlimited money. Plus you can pick up the listings and find another show you want to go to and plan a second friend date!

Going to an art gallery is such a fun (and often free) day out. It's a great way to get inspiration of different ways to create from painting to photography and sculptures. One of my favourite parts is reading the description to learn about the people in the historical paintings and piecing them together with my knowledge of that historical time period. It's also a nice calm environment to be in so it's nice to just wonder around and catch up with a friend.

its so fun. theres so many types. abundant cheap options to get into. i recommend looking at jet pens website for both articles and pens you can buy. its a topic with tons of history, but is still modern and active. i have a kaweco aluminum sport which is my favorite but i also love the lamy safaris. could go on for hours about this lovely invention

it’s such a awkward marker of a new year. a weird mix of wanting people to celebrate you, but feeling tired of the obligation to thank everyone that only reaches out once a year.
i always find birthdays really hard, and fairly disappointing.
my recommendation is to give yourself grace, and do what makes you happy. i know it’s such a generic rec but this past year on the actual day i just took it easy, treated myself to some takeout, and watched a show in bed. a few days after i got together with friends and we went to a restaurant i love but they’d never really wanted to go to. and then we ate homemade cake and watched a movie.
