a tube of terror. it can reduce a full ass tree to tiny shreds with no effort. i can never get the image of a human goop oozing out the chute. unfortunately i live in a woody area and i see them everywhere and it genuinely makes me sick :/

This past week I was shooting a documentary in rural New Mexico and living in the woods with the subject because, he lives in the woods. One of the main tasks was cutting wood to heat his cabin during the winter, and while I was there he copped this chainsaw. I have used other chainsaws, but the STIHL MS 250 really did feel like the perfect weight and power to fuck shit up while not being too fearful of seriously injuring yourself. Using a chainsaw combines several of my favorite things, being outside, knowing the activity I'm participating in could kill me, very loud noises, using my large hands, but mostly, it makes you feel like you're creating life.

an intuitively mindful activity that humans have been doing forever. despite its innate destruction i find myself feeling connected to the earth. some logs are harder to chop through if they have knots, even in death the tree’s commitment to self preservation is admirable.

you ever see something so disgusting or bizarre online that you think to yourself "yeah, maybe i should go touch grass for a moment..."

it’s such a awkward marker of a new year. a weird mix of wanting people to celebrate you, but feeling tired of the obligation to thank everyone that only reaches out once a year. i always find birthdays really hard, and fairly disappointing. my recommendation is to give yourself grace, and do what makes you happy. i know it’s such a generic rec but this past year on the actual day i just took it easy, treated myself to some takeout, and watched a show in bed. a few days after i got together with friends and we went to a restaurant i love but they’d never really wanted to go to. and then we ate homemade cake and watched a movie. sorry if this isn’t a very upbeat response (: <3 happy birthday!! and know random people on the internet are celebrating you (:
