my friends and i love a bit, so I was forced to approach a guy I thought was cute at the bar and buy him a drink. we got the bartender in on it (who turned out to be his friend, told me his fav drink and that he was single). We ended up chatting over paper planes for like an hour before I retreated back to my friends after we exchanged contact info. Alas nothing came of it, but either way, I've been riding the high of approaching a literal stranger in public since then and realized it wasn't as heinous an experience as I thought it would be.

weird in a good way! but seriously, when someone hits on you or you're hitting on them just ask some out-of-place question! I once asked a guy what did he do today and he told me about his small daughter and how he takes her skateboarding. the guy was hitting on me and there was at least a 10 year-old age gap between us, but for 30 minutes I was listening to a very involved dad who adored his daughter. at the same time he was covered in glitter and on his fifth cigarette. I miss him sometimes.

There was a guy waiting in line for the bathroom at this bar I was at and when he went in I said to my friend ā€œthat guy was so hotā€ and didnā€™t realize Bathroom Manā€™s friend was behind me and he was like ā€œheā€™s a good guy, you should talk to himā€ and I did NOT because I was TOO AFRAID BUT I SHOULD HAVE

I was at the bar and my friend was telling me about this girl that her friend had a crush on and the description sounded vaguely familiar so I asked them to show me her Instagram and she pulled it up and put it on the table. I scrolled through to find a good picture and said ā€œyes I do know her sheā€™s-ā€¦right thereā€ and I looked up and she was running towards me and I screamed her name and we hugged and made a huge scene. Definitely not slick wingman wise but I couldnā€™t help it because of how much of a coincidence it was. This girl was constantly on tour up and down the east coast and never in town really so we barely saw each other but always had a good time whenever we did. It was so random and felt cosmic. I introduced her to my friends and she hung out for a bit. Someoneā€™s far away, ā€œunattainableā€ Instagram crush popping up at the table, as soon shes brought up. It was so cool, Iā€™ll never forget it.

I vividly remember for my 6th grade graduation we all had to stand up in front of the parents and say what we wanted to be when we grew up, and lil ol' me took that mic and said with my whole chest, "hedgefund manager". The way there was a moment of silence before the fathers stood and applauded me, I will never forget. Got a lot of handshakes after that one. Did I know what a hedgefund manager was? Not a chance. I was brainwashed by my father. Anyways, I'm a writer now.
