Feels kind of dumb recommending something as simple as a toothbrush but this has honestly become one of my favorite every day items- picked one up in NYC at Bigelow one day last year after forgetting my own, and going forward I am only buying these. The tasteful tortoiseshell design, the curvature, and the extra large bristle area are all so nice. A micro luxury if you will- combined with a Marvis toothpaste I actually look forward to brushing my teeth every morning now.

I’m obsessed with dental hygiene and floss incessantly, and for a few years I’ve been buying these handmade, natural bristle Italian toothbrushes in different colors from my favourite 1920s brush & shaving supply store in Vienna, Walter Weiss. The colors on these make me happiest and I feel like both the size and the firmness of the bristles (I use a Soft for the morning, and the Hard variety as my evening toothbrush) are just what my teeth crave (a dentist told me electrical toothbrushes suck, and I’m happy to have made the switch back to analog — and even try brushing with my left hand every other day). When I was in New York I saw they’re being carried at the Eckhaus Latta store so it made my discovery of them feel just a teensy bit less special, but here you go. They make great presents, too. I couldn’t find them online!

It’s easy to overlook how worn down those bristles get from constant use day in/out. Clean new brush is one of those little things that makes for that much better of a start to my morning, with no actual change to my routine. You probably could use one - but even if you don’t, you will soon.

I don’t believe in ranking things- restaurants, albums, books, movies, athletes anything, top x lists whatever. I think it’s a waste of time honestly. Even with a completely objective criterion what’s the point. Would rather listen to and read people just talk about their favorite things and why they are special and meaningful to them- everyone has their own, interesting reasons. And this is a great place to do that!
