they literally should sponsor me because i also made another rec of thisā€¦ they have a ton of different meditations (including the type, like body scan or loving kindness) done by a bunch of different people. i hate tech but i took a meditation course for school and then that reminded me how much i like meditation so started using the guided meditations on this app! iā€™m currently working on getting back into doing them every night instead of a few nights. if you can find a place to fit it directly in your routines that may also help!

Like anything else that lots of people are telling me to do, I resisted meditation for ages (thatā€™s my contrarian complex). The continuous search for purpose finally broke me down and I tried meditation, starting with short, guided practices on insight timer. This app has everything! Meditations, courses, music, trackers, and the eponymous timer. I am consistently impressed with the functionality of the app and the quality content that teachers generously share. If youā€™re using the free version and a particular piece of content really resonates, you can easily send money to the creator. Plus, once you get into it, meditation is like free entertainment, advice, and connection, all in one.

In a previous post, I've rec'd the book The Miracle of Mindfulness that kicked off my meditation journey. Recently, the meditation app Headspace put out two video series on Netflix, Guide to Sleep and Guide to Meditation. Iā€™ve given both series a shot and they've been effective and are really well made. Other than the really sick graphics, I really liked how real studies were incorporated to debunk sleep and meditation myths that I hadn't known about. If you're looking to keep your mind at peace by dealing with troubling stress or sleep, highly recommended!

being traditionally cool is really quite boring and iterative, and itā€™s actually very cool and sexy to geek out about something you like or share bits of knowledge on a topic youā€™re passionate about

i had it for a little over a year until i was like wow this is actually terrible! i genuinely think it has negatively impacted society by ruining peopleā€™s attention spans, having a horrific algorithm, and most of all by the most mind-numbing or outright harmful trends - fake words that people now use IRL (ā€œunaliveā€), trad wife tiktok, shein hauls, body-focused fitness vids that encourage fatphobia and unhealthy habits, shallow political/feminist theory and queer discourse, ā€œalpha maleā€ podcaster tiktok, encouraging overconsumption in general, trends ruining local spots or niche thingsā€¦ the list goes on
