alaiyo my method is roughly
- if ur paper is totally flat, crease it down the middle like you get in a folded pack of papers
- lay the paper down with the gum facing up and on the opposite side from you, so that the paper is like a hot dog bun
- kink the crease of the paper at the left end so it will lay flat and open
- place ur filter at the right end of the paper
- grind ur herbs to a medium coarseness
- use another rolling paper, a folded piece of cardstock, or something else to scoop up your ground herb and funnel it along the center line of the paper; u want a pile that goes from the inside edge of the filter to about where the kink is in the paper. don’t overfill at this step
- press out the kink in the paper so that it begins to fold up
- carefully lift both edges of the paper, cradling your herb and filter in place
- lay the side of the paper closest to you (ie the side without the gum) flat against the filter and start to gently roll it back and forth with your fingers; the goal here is to work the herb into a well defined cylinder shape that is roughly the same consistent diameter as your filter
- this is probably the hardest step: realign the side of the paper nearest you (without the gum) to make sure it is flat against the filter and herb cylinder, and also parallel to the shape of the joint as much as possible; gently roll it as before, but when the flat paper starts to get close to going underneath the other end of the paper, use your fingertips to keep it flush and to get the joint body started. this may take a couple of tries, because the paper can try to bend up and out, instead of down and under; just rock the paper back a little bit and try again until it goes in smoothly
- finish the roll and lick the gum to seal your joint
- OPTIONAL BUT HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: use a pencil or something slightly smaller than the diameter of your joint to pack the weed down as much as possible; typically i will pack it until it starts to just barely push the filter out of the other end, and then push the filter back in. use your funnel from earlier to keep filling the now partially-empty joint, and continue packing with your pencil
- when there is just a little tiny length of paper left at the end, you can either flip the joint and stick it into a pile of ground weed it give it a “cigarette style” open ended finish, or you can use your pencil to flatten the paper from 3 sides to create an end cap that you don’t have to burn or cut off.
