i grew up in colorado and my grandparents lived near cheyenne mountain. their house was big and had beautiful views and a porch. when my parents and i would stay the night we slept in the basement and they had a little toddler bed for me. they had this marble coffee table that i still remember laying my hands and forehead on to feel how cool the stone was. i miss them so much and those memories are so sweet. one day i’d like to move back to colorado and buy their house :)

Ive been reminiscing over this place. It is my second home. Ive spent almost every sumer there with my cousins. I miss lying down on my hammock for hours. I miss chasing my cousins around the house. I miss playing soccor in front. I miss eating untill bursting. I miss the hot sun blazing on my forehead and the back of my neck. I miss sounds of the cars driving over the dirt road. I miss the sounds of people playing soccer out front. I miss the smells of strong tea and coffee all throughout the house. I miss listening in on the neighbors when they argued. I miss the sounds of chicken frying. I miss my grandma. I miss my family. I miss my home.
(In retrospect, it sound like a lot of whining.)

I got to visit Beeville, Texas where my grandmother grew up and it was absolutely life changing. It’s a tiny rural town I never would’ve gone to otherwise but I went to a Dairy Queen where she’d meet her best friend, saw a high school gym made from rocks gathered on her family’s farm, ate at her favorite Mexican restaurant from her 20’s, and saw the property where she grew up. It made me feel so much closer to her and gave me such a better view of what her life was like before becoming my grandma.

my grandad is one of the best people out there and he’s about to die, i’m very glad we got to do so much stuff together and become friends. our relationship really shaped me. visit your grandparents :)

on my old car i used to have a bumper sticker that said “i hope you have a good day” on it. one day i came out of the grocery store and someone had left a note on my car on a sheet of paper from their notebook that said “i hope YOU have a good day!” i think about the person that went out of their way to leave that note a lot and hope that they know how sweet that was. i kept the note and put it in my junk journal/scrapbook and when i’m having a bad day i like to look at it.
