I’m having so much fun watching these elite athletes battle it out. I’m laughing, I’m crying, I’m learning about the intricacies of BMX. I’ve watched many Olympics before of course but I feel something is happening to me and I’m deeply invested this time. Never have I watched rowing and cared, but this year?? I care. Striving for excellence against the odds, comebacks that make me weep, feats of strength and endurance… humanity! What’s not to love!!!

discovering my love for tennis this year has been huge for me. from the paris olympics, to the cincinnati open, to the US open…it's been incredibly fun following my favorite players, carlos alcaraz and coco gauff, and witnessing their highs and lows. i've seen how difficult it is to achieve sustained success in the sport, which gives me a greater appreciation for anyone who competes at a high level, no matter their rank.

^ that icon reminded me of the Olympics, and the chaos that organised events can hold. Like the Olympics today is highly regarded as a celebration of peak human physicality, but its' history is really fascinating and also works with the claim to put normal people in the events today so we can understand how far we have all come lol One guy disappeared in the 1912 marathon, royalty participated, there's the Jamaican bobsleigh team that had a whole movie based on their experiences at the Winter edition (Cool Runnings) etc etc.

Yesterday the teams got to run through their routines in the arena and you can watch them on Peacock (search for podium) There are no announcers on the broadcast and no one in the stands, it’s just sights and sounds of gymnastics for 90 minutes. Really pleasant and what I most love about Olympicsstreaming

Even if you have other creative pursuits that require your brain to work, it’s fun to have one that requires very little thought or attention. I started crocheting a couple years ago and it’s perfect while sitting in front of the TV or listening to a podcast or just zoning out. Makes me feel productive even as my brain melts out my ears, and makes me feel creative even when I’m not doing any cooler, more challenging projects that require more of my energy.
