genres: cyberpunk, Science fiction, action movie When watching, you can notice a number of references (including to the works of Quentin Tarantino), but this doesn’t make the plot any less unique, quite the contrary, I would call Akudama Drive a fairly memorable anime with dynamic narration and animation. Violent and dark at times, but still worth watching and recommending. I can confidently say that this anime is one of my favourites ✨✨

i highly recommend the works of Masaaki Yuasa. specifically: The Night Is Short Walk On Girl, Mind Game, and Inu-Oh. super unique, whimsy animation style. always something fresh and unlike anything you’ve seen before. cute slice of life stories with really creative ideas to take them to the next level. love ya!

the movie for sure and then the 6 volume manga if you’re hooked after that. not only is the animation beautiful, but it’s also hugely influential to sci fi, anime, and film in general. the story deals with themes of the abuse of power, friendship, loyalty, militarism, and government corruption. it’s a movie that is rewarding upon rewatches as more details become clear. honestly the english dub is great so sub or dub is just a matter of preference for this one imo.

Sci-fi war between mechas and monsters (AKA the two things that look good in Netflix's 3D animation) with time travel, which is quite unique and deep, but still makes perfect sense. The main cast is great, everyone has a unique personality and reactions to events and revelations. Apparently a lot of people find the protagonist annoying (he is proven right after people hated him for a decade and has a big superiority complex for most of the series) but his character arc of getting humbled is done very well. *Warnings: murder, existential dread*
