Find me tinkering with your clocks or repairing the sole of your shoe or sculpting your pots! Iā€™d have some kind of specialized skill thatā€™s useful to the people around me. My father taught me the trade and his father taught him and his fatherā€™s father taught that father, etc.

in 1960 my grandparents were farmers so they had plenty to do and when it was too cold to do those things they got really good at crafts like embroidery, needlepoint, sewing, baking, fixing things, reading. idk pretend thereā€™s a power outage and see what you gravitate to?

The strap of my dress snapped a few years ago and then in minutes I sewed it back on and felt a satisfaction so profound that it had to be Ancient and Just. If you donā€™t know how to mend it, someone doesā€¦ COBBLERS are REAL!!!!! Iā€™ve seen them with my eyes and they have re-birthed my shoes like Gods on Earth. Mass consumption has us addicted to buying and discarding but I highly recommend repairing your shit - relationships too! My uncle who doesnā€™t shut up once told me that ā€œlife is all about maintenanceā€ (genius) so I forgave him for being the way that he is!

Each has varying degrees of transit mobility and work in different ways. All are on the cheaper end for major citiesā€”though depends on your idea of cheap. Iā€™ve lived in philly and minneapolis without a car. Phillyā€™s trains and trolleys get you most places youā€™d want to go if you live near a stop. Thereā€™s also a bus system thatā€™s a little frustrating bc of traffic but the routes are pretty comprehensive. Some bike lanes but the drivers there arenā€™t super safe to bike around. Minneapolis is more spread out and there are two light-rail lines (i think? maybe there are more? Iā€™ve been here for like a month), and it seems like most people i know who arenā€™t driving take the buses. Thereā€™s also an incredible amount of bike lanes and trails. Downside is winter probably. And i havenā€™t lived in baltimore but iā€™ve heard good things! Itā€™s also more affordable than most cities and i canā€™t attest to the quality of the public transit but i know itā€™s there.
