speaking of solo concerts, i went to The Beths last night for the second time this year and wow, they are truly one of my favorite bands ever. Australian indie rock band with an incredible show both times. tight tight TIGHT band. danced my shit off, incredible guitar lines, the whole band sings backup vocals while they play, it’s unreal. feels like driving 95 down a highway or running as fast as you can until you fall straight into a body of water. feels like the most charming and poignant ways to sing about a breakup. feels like I LOVE LIVE MUSIC!!! ran into a friend at the show who told me they found The Beths through a playlist i made and got hooked. made my night. maybe you will be next

they opened for the airborne toxic event on their most recent tour and i loooved their sound. it’s everything i loved about elvis and new wave and 2010s indie rock and they have such a great stage presence!! see them live if you can.
side note: people don’t get together and form a band enough anymore i hope this signals a broader shift in music back to bands bc it’s so much more fun to see that chemistry play out rather than constantly hero-ing a single vocalist ☆

i went to see my friend‘s friend’s band play their last show in nyc this weekend before their move to Nashville to pursue music full time. they’ve both got gorgeous unique voices and it was so special to see them play a very small intimate venue. you could feel how passionate they were about their music. Highly recommend giving them a listen

there is nothing better than a solo date to see a band you love. no shouting over the crowd to your date, freedom to dance as crazy as you want, peak people-watching. get as drunk as you want, who cares. talk to a stranger or don’t. tip the bartender and merch person, befriend the bouncer. you are the main character when you are on an adventure with yourself. who knows you better than you…? music is so euphoric and transformative, i will always cherish my solo concerts

how has no one said this one yet? chappell is winning music right now and this tiny desk certainly was part of that. between the stripped down live arrangements, matching pink band outfits, comedic personality in between songs, the wig (insane), and her VOICE….truly this performance is beyond i could watch it a million times
