if you have a local coffee shop, go there and don’t drive to a starbucks or dunkin get a library card befriend your neighbors get plugged into the goings on of your town or city repeat local legends become friendly with your favorite store’s employees read in your local park patronize your local artists the way to plant roots is to stay in the same place for as long as possible! you don’t get that by driving out of town for every meal and beverage and thing you want

Going where everybody knows your name (a la “cheers”)

Find a place and stick to it for a few months. Embrace the hamster wheel! Everyone in this city wants to try a new restaurant/bar/cafe and I get it because there are so many options, but having your Place and getting into a groove with it opens you up to new people and deeper understanding of those people and your surroundings! Someone else here made a post about being a regular and I wish I could remember who it was because this is kind of just piggybacking off of that! Mwah!

that musical instrument? BUY IT

If you played an instrument when younger, I 100% recommend owning it when you’re older. I took Flute lessons all my school years and stopped after graduating. Now I’m older, I‘m really grateful for them. Also, appreciate the instrument much more without the pressure to learn and progress. Musical instruments are incredible hobbies, gorgeous, and it’s never too late to start learning !!

I love doing this! Outside seating at a cafe / restaurant / bar and just being. Take a moment to sonder. Watching others experience life and go about their day. Coffee or wine in one hand, cigarette in the other - it’s amazing.
