i despise war movies. i don’t understand them and i don’t WANT to understand them. but something about the single-take style, the harsh lightning of a flare gun through the smoke, the overpowering score (the score!!! the score) benedict cumberbatch quoting lana del rey during the 20 seconds he’s onscreen, or george mckay’s innocent little face running through a battalion of soldiers (no, no, its definitely the score) it gets me every time man. hope is a dangerous thing

This is a fantastic movie All the discourse surrounding it is exhausting it’s a fictional movie about war photographers and the tragedies of war and it is not a warning or “this will actually happen if we don’t fix things” movie Kirsten Dunst is obviously great but Cailee Spaeny is the standout for me she is just so fucking good (can’t wait for alien Romulus that is going to be so cool) The soundtrack is insane and songs play over the most harrowing shit you’ve ever seen that you would never think to put over those scenes but it works so so well See it in imax if you can the gunfire is deafening and shocking and it is a great looking movie too (the incorporation of the photography throughout is incredible) Anyone from DC or the surrounding area will be weirded out or at least I was seeing insane combat in the streets of dc and in the White House/lincoln memorial/Washington monument but it made it even more impactful for me

i have never felt such simultaneous dread and awe. i will forever be in love with everything about this movie; a pace thats frenzying and cathartic, cinematography+directing inspired by italian neorealism, and performances that defy explanation. fundamental theater experience for my taste maturation and sparked my love for independent cinema exhibition.
