I've been on a 10-month classic film bender with my classic film loving partner and this was the very first one he showed me and to this day, after 70+ films, Pygmalion is still my absolute favourite. I just love romantic leads that are aloof and distant but are shown to have deep feelings that they struggle with, like Pygmalion's leading man, masterfully portrayed by Leslie Howard. It feels comforting to see a character that struggles with revealing how he feels through words and actions, rather stews in his emotions until prompted. Leading lady Eliza Doolittle, portrayed by Wendy Hiller being a formidable, talented woman in the film is so lovable that you cannot help but root for her (I've seen a lot of these classic films and I will tell you the "strong female character" has ALWAYS been on screen). Oh, oh, it's such a beautiful little film. It's so romantic. To be loved is to be changed. I love love. I love romance. I love Pygmalion.

No other film has made me feel like so strongly that I’m actually witnessing true love. The relationship between Montgomery Clift and Elizabeth Taylor teeters on the edge of rapture, a rapture of recognition, of adoration, that is almost incestuous… You are me I am you. Little Golden Age History lesson as it’s interesting to me… Researching the film I found out that Clift and Taylor were extremely close friends in real life until Clift’s untimely death at only 45… She even saved his life when she found him in a car wreck and reached in his mouth and removed his own knocked out teeth that were blocking his throat and choking him. Hollywood was a difficult world for the both of them, especially for Clift as he struggled with having to hide his sexuality as a gay man. They were also two of the most beautiful people ever, together it’s almost unbearable… is this how the Greek soldiers felt when they finally saw Helen on the walls of Troy… Recognition of something truly extraordinary - a fantastic story overwhelmed by a far more fantastic reality… This film was where a lifelong connection began, it really is about true love <3

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!! i have been trying to get more into old films and doing a run of Henry Fonda flicks (love this man). this movie ROCKS. incredibly funny, it's film about yearning and doppelgangers and falling in love. Henry Fonda and Barbara Stanwyck are two of the most beautiful people ever to be put on a screen. Also just incredibly well directed, it's one of the best-shot movies I've seen. It's a perfect Valentine's Day movie!!

I am pretty certain that I am with the person I'm going to marry. We've been through so much together and no one in the world has ever known me as intimately as he does. My soul is crystal clear to him. And he loves me. Most importantly, he is always ready to learn even more about me and to evolve with me and to make space for me in his life, in his habits, and in his behaviour. I love him so much. I'm so lucky. I hope I find him in all my other lives. I hope we're together until the end of time.
