One of the best found footage horror mockumentaries I've ever seen. I got to watch it for the first time at a local independent theater and it still haunts me to this day! ~1,000,000 phone calls were made to BBC received after the show was broadcast... On Live TV. This shows how brilliant this film is. For the Halloween season, I definitely recommend adding it to your watchlist!

Ghostwatch is a horror mockumentary that aired on BBC on October 31st in 1992 as if it were a real, live paranormal investigation — mimicking shows like Most Haunted. It starts as a seemingly straightforward Halloween special, with actual BBC presenters Michael Parkinson in the studio, tuning into a “live” investigation of a haunted house… but it spirals into something really chilling and intense.  A lot of people missed the ‘this is a work of fiction’ warning at the start and assumed what was happening on TV was real. I think to this date it’s the most complaints the BBC have ever received. They’ve never aired it again.  It’s the perfect Halloween watch! For the full effect go in blind, start at 9:25pm — when the show originally aired — and follow it up with a chaser of spending all night googling the lore 👻  I love it so much I made this zine around this time last year!

😱
I’m still watching them even tho October is over wtf??? I just can’t get enough. Recent greats include: Noroi: The Curse (2005) - Found footage… the climax is so good. Great for fans of ghost/demon stuff. Pulse (2001) - One of my favourite horror movies ever. Worms its way into your being. Some truly terrifying, iconic scenes and imagery, not to mention quite prescient in its message re: online connectivity and society. Really can’t sing its praises enough! Ju-On: The Grudge (2002) - A classic!!! Still hits. Quintessential haunted house domestic strife ghost story. Toshio 😢🐈‍⬛ Audition (1999) - Probably my least favourite of this batch. Not for the squeamish. Still worth a watch if only for its feminist social commentary. GonJiam: Haunted Asylum (2018) - OK this one is admittedly kinda hokey but it’s based off a REAL location and the jump scares are amazing!! Some truly spine-tingling moments. Not recommended just before bed lol 😬 (Also found footage)

I live in Chicago! Depending on where you're staying, there's a bunch of cool things to do as Chicago is a city of neighborhoods. Wicker Park and Logan Square are popular neighborhoods to check out and they're on the cheaper end. California Clipper, Rainbo Club, and Common Decency are bars that are worth checking out. I know that Common Decency has a happy hour 4-6pm 7 days a week. If you're into movies, check out the Music Box Theatre! It's a 95 year old arthouse movie theatre in the Southport Corridor/Lakeview neighborhood that shows independent and second run films. Speaking of Lakeview, Clark Street is pretty popular if you're going to check out Wrigley Field! There are bars up and down the block so you won't need to walk far to find a place to drink at for cheap. If you need any more ideas or recommendations, let me know!
