did not expect to catch a bunch of Italian punk bands from Como in the middle of England last night - but it was a dream. And a reminder of the fucking strange, beautiful nature of music, and the organic networks of community that blossom from picking up instruments and starting a band. East Anglia has a p strong punk/hardcore/everything adjacent scene and a couple of old heads started a regular all-day gig - East Angrier. These heads had supported a band in Italy and they promised to return the favour. So here they were, flooding the bar by early evening with sweat, angst, charm and frenetic bursts of Italian as they ordered pints of Guinness. Pictured is The Forest Calling, who took the roof off the place 🇮🇹

I was at my music organization's meeting yesterday and they brought up how the punk scene here is nonexistent. Just looking back and appreciating the bands keeping the scene alive back in my hometown! When I joined this org I had the vision of bringing these bands I befriended up to la because of the very fact there is no punk scene near me. Hoping this can come to fruition soon. I find there's so many talented artists everywhere, but sometimes their success is determined by access to resources.

Me and two other buds started talking about starting a punk band on Thursday, and now it’s Monday and we just had our first rehearsal/jam session and to say we are THE great American punk rock band is an understatement. I apologize for the disappointment when we actually release something.

Obviously your mileage may vary based on your tolerance for hardcore punk, but if you're so inclined, this was their last show before going on hiatus for a few years. The raw energy in the room is unfathomable; skip to the last two minutes if you don't believe me. That hiatus is when two side projects really started taking off, too. Justice (the vocalist) started pumping out Angel Du$t albums, and Brendan (the drummer) started to become much better-known for his band Turnstile... Astute viewers will notice Franz from Turnstile singing around 39 minutes into this set as well! This show, to me, feels like a big bang that sent those two bands hurtling towards the 2020s to redefine the genre.
