not good for your health but good for your soul. meeting up outside after my shift and this one guy wordlessly offering me his lit cigarette because he knows. we are connecting and it’s the ‘casual intimacy of sharing something that touches your lips’ or what have you

Such a fleeting moment of concentrated intimacy. Over in a blink and yet it always feels so quietly powerful??

i finally decided to quit smoking for good this year. however…the one thing holding me back was the wonderful, communal feeling of sharing a cig with strangers outside a bar. luckily, you can always be the person with the lighter on hand when people need one. you still experience that nice, warm bonding feeling without actually smoking. plus you’re being of service to others, which deepens the connection <3

when i want a cig and i‘m tipsy ill walk up to the smoking area and if there’s someone who looks friendly and cool i’ll say ‘you know how we’ve known each other our whole lives? you know how we’re long lost friends? please can i have a cig?’ and they’re so baffled by it that it a) mostly always works and b) makes them want to keep talking to you because of your strange and bold behaviour

i’m needing to remind myself that being odd and dressing uniquely is not a bad thing. going back to university and not knowing anyone in my classes while also showing up in a full tweed suit or a tetris cardigan or a long brocade jacket is okay. don’t let the uniqueness leave you just because people give you strange looks. be more like the girl that dresses in head to toe lolita coords every day. or the guy that came to class dressed as soulja boy for no particular reason. get weird with it!!
