I watched this last night and it fit the description perfectly. Barry Egan is a Lars Lindstrom-style "literally me" type character whose isolation and antisocial behaviour being seen as pathetic and pitiable rather than cool and mysterious.

sandman / guzman / hoffman not sure how many times i've seen it, but my viewing last night was so therapeutic. sandler’s emotional range coupled with the super syncopated and relentless jon brion score and the long winded tracking shots totally lure you into his psyche and you can really feel his feelings and laugh at the pain. it perfectly captures a slice of life, when the odds feel stacked against you and everything is in overdrive. it’s got all the blueprints a superhero movie would have yet it’s set in a mundane liminal world. it’s like what if the hulk had to put up with a never ending stream of hurdles and bullshit, but instead of green skin and a big bod it’s adam sandler in a blue suit and they both break a lot of stuff

In my line of work, it's tempting to drink a lot. I like to watch this movie every now and again as a check-in to see where my relationship to alcohol stands. Am I having fun while I’m out? Is it making me more gregarious, more impassioned? Or has it been isolating me, making me unreliable, making me down-right sad? This movie is excellent in many ways, one being that it spans the gamut of what booze can do for you and to you. When in doubt, tag yourself.

One of the few apps with no ephemeral "story" feature or whatever so you don't need to check it every 24 hours. Cherish this.
