Let me preface that I am not religious and I am not trying to promote the catholic church - respect to the oppressed peoples in Ireland and the Philippines etc. who do rock with catholicism, but Iā€™m not here to defend it. That said, it is neat to recite a cool prayer you learned in catholic school - it hearkens to a time when people would just memorize poetry for fun. Hereā€™s one that I used to recite whenever I was afraid: St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May god rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the Power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. Bars.

When I ā€œdidnā€™t believeā€ in God, and hated everything about the ā€œGod concept,ā€ I started silently asking for help in the morning, and saying thank you at night. I had no belief, or faith, or anything other than a semi-open, but still mostly closed, mind. Over time, it became the most important part of my life. Prayer is something that can only be understood through the act. If you want to try it, do it every day for 2-3 weeks. You can make the prayers longer if you want to, or do a pre-written prayer, like the Saint Francis Prayer. Worst case scenario youā€™re just talking to a wall. See what happens.

i am not particularly religious but the serenity prayer has always struck me as incredibly sage and powerful. there are variations on the wording but the general idea is: god grant me the serenity to accept the things i cannot change, the courage to change what i can, and the wisdom to know the difference. has gotten me through many tough days

not religious, but tbh reading the Bible or any religious scripture blows me away with how beautiful and significant everything manages to sound. my family is catholic, and we had to go to prayer for a family member's death today. did I do any of the prayers? no.. do all of them probably think I'm a weird queer emo who is going to hell? yes but some of the verses were unironically so TOUGH. made me feel like i should be sitting by a stained glass windows, writing an epic of love and tribulation with a big feather quill.Ā

I joined the internet at the advent of formal social media so chatrooms and forums were never really a thing I participated in. Still, I would watch my older sister in AIM chatrooms and try to wrap my head around the appeal, the way she would sit around for hours watching texts appear from, to me, indecipherable usernames. The experience of Webfishing, I have to imagine, is akin to what my sister felt bullshitting away hours of the night as her soulja-boy-ing stick figure gif looped ad infinitum. In webfishing, you inhabit a little cat or dog avatar (even more with expanded species mods which are dumb easy to install - I play as a little bunny boy) and sit around, cast your line in hopes of catching rare and valuable aquatic life. All underscored by the incessant chatter of 11 other players textually shooting the shit, cracking jokes, role playing, etc. Itā€™s a portal into the world of queer and trans youth, furries, weebs, and folks who just like digital fishing mini-games. You can start a convo, get real with strangers, catch some fish, drink a digital beer, unlock swag for your avatar, and enjoy the vibe. Highly Recommend.

If you have any heart, then you can see that we need a revolution that would strike the final blow against the greatest cause of misery and exploitation in the world, U.S. Imperialism. Iā€™ve seen a lot of folks who recognize this, but then very pessimistically bemoan the lack of organization among the left. Generally, the people who believe this are not organized themselves, and if they were, they would probably not believe this. They donā€™t know that as capitalism progresses, it digs its own grave - the crises of 2020 resulted in a swell of membership among all the Red organizations, the Palestine solidarity movement after Oct. 7th saw a swell, and now after Trumpā€™s re-election, we are seeing droves of people join orgs like DSA, PSL, and FRSO. In contradiction between two things (eg. Capitalism being the contradiction between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat) we can first make quantitative changes (an increase in membership, the establishment of greater union power, the development of political leadership among the masses) which at a certain level makes a qualitative leap that changes the nature of the contradiction. The aspect which was primary, becomes subordinate to that which was secondary. The more we fight, develop, and harm the enemy; the more we shift the scales in our favor and make the possibility of revolution higher. There is hope for a revolution w/in our lifetime.
