He drew all these unbelievably intricate maps of middle-earth that were never published during his lifetime, purely for his own amusement and his love of thoroughness. I aspire to that level of devotion to my passions! I also love his more informal abstract paintings and drawings. They’re kind of outsider art in a funny way but so underrated and don’t get enough love!

My father is a wood, stone, reclaimed materials, and xeriscape artist and resents that he‘s subjected to the gaze of an audience if anything. I know with absolute certainty that he would feel compelled to create beautiful things even if he were the last man on earth, even if there were nothing left to build with. it’s the way he interfaces with the world! I think that’s very common among the most humble working artists who really do it for their craft and it’s why they’re able to be so prolific. Many of these artists don’t become known until after their deaths, if ever.

i make things as a hobby, whether it be bits of music, awful drawings, writing, whatever, and i find that i work best after admiring others’ art. maybe it inspires me, maybe it’s just how things work in my head, but i feel that art, or any sort of creation, comes from creation, and so, it‘s ALRIGHT to use something else as a reference point, or rather, consume something before you create!! i like just sitting with something for a while, eventually something pops into my mind and gets my thoughts going. sitting with an instrument and messing around makes it easier to make something up, or scribbling makes it easier to think of what to draw. also, doing what’s best for you, whether that be taking ages to come up with an idea, and even longer to see it through, or making lots in a small amount of time. YOU do whatever is best for YOU, and probably your sanity. just generally loll have a lovely day slayyyy 💕

reading this was so refreshing having just read Kafka’s The Trial which is 100 or so pages of what felt like the exact same scene over and over again But really there’s so much in this quote that you can put into your artmaking! It helps me remember that the idea is king, and any way you can convey the idea is valid. why should the 75 Hours I spend on a painting imbue the idea with any more importance?

I love it when the producers rattle the cage. I feel like the show mostly shows that love is sadly not blind. I’m always so convinced they really fall in love, and then I imagine that intimate scene replaying with the cameraperson slightly wobbling, half-hidden behind a piece of furniture. A true emotional rollercoaster.
