I think about this line from virgil abloh's lecture at columbia's architecture school all the time, which is about the Yeezus album cover. a testament to how, when you put in enough hours, sometimes you create work that transcends your current capabilities - even if just by chance.

iâd like to approach more than just art with this way or thinking. it would lead to a lot less disappointment and a lot more excitement. đȘŽÂ

I sometimes tell this to the architecture students I work with.
I believe that most great artists are sorta insane in that they allow themselves to become fully obsessed with an idea and have it take over their brain. Like Kusama putting dots on everything. Basically, submit yourself fully to an idea and iterate on it endlessly. Learn from it. Let it take you somewhere beautiful

i always think about the cycle of consumption
Art is to be made to be consumed and we do, but the other art needs to be made so in the same way a dentist needs a dentist. Who is at the end? Are we not in a deficit of creation?
i think about this often, it reminds me of the crywank dog on the album cover, or a snake eating itself. or all those monkeys typing what Iâve already written here in an infinite timeline.
all this to say not all art needs to be good and we shouldnât create art to be good.
