After falling in love with “Bitte Orca” by Dirty Projectors around this time last year, I realized I love Pitchfork-era music. These old year-end lists introduce me to so many forgotten indie rock gems. I don’t think Gen Z remembers how tapped in Pitchfork used to be. This list in particular introduced me to “Dear Science” by TV on the Radio, an energetic and eclectic record that I knew nothing about.

I revisited Towkio’s .WAV theory mixtape and realized that, unfortunately, Pitchfork really did mould who I am today.

such a tender and fun time... could just be looped in with that era of indie rock but there was something so distinct about it (twee? sparkly? childlike? maybe that's my own perception of its influence on me at the time?) someone still loves you boris yeltsin, freelance whales, clap your hands say yeah, midlake, islands, rogue wave, throw me the statue ETC!!!! i feel like i'm puking at homecoming bc my ex bf is grinding with my best friend and i am going home to burn a CD about it!!!!!

Oracular Spectacular - MGMT (yes, I was that kid with a quote from “Future Reflections” on my senior yearbook page) It’s Blitz - Yeah Yeah Yeahs (decades before I would obsess over the YYYs after reading Meet Me In The Bathroom) Strange Mercy - St. Vincent (saw her open for Andrew Bird and was hooked until Daddy’s Home… Annie Clark you will always be famous)

Generally speaking, I wanna reorganize the way I use the internet. I wanna participate and interact with people. I feel like on Instagram I’ve been worrying too much about the mystique I create for myself, like I’m constantly advertising myself. It feels icky and I’m ready to give it up.
