Biiiiig fan of having a Place you always go, a Place where you’ve tried most things on the menu, a Place where you can recognize all the workers and almost have your punchcard fully filled out. A Place where you have a favorite booth and least favorite stool because it wobbles a little. if my life were a sitcom and they could only build so many sets, this Place would definitely be one of them

In college I went to the same Mexican place every day for a burrito, got the same coffee at the same Dunkin’ Donuts every morning Years later im in a new area following the same philosophy, I eat a chicken bruschetta wrap at the same place every time I go out for lunch and still get the same coffee at the same local Dunkin’ Donuts every morning. I frequent the same full service gas station, go to the same mechanic, Kevin, buy groceries from the same local mart, get my hair cut by the same barber, buy any and all hardware misc from the same little hardware store, Jeds. When your order gets prepared the second you walk in, and you have a relationship with your daily’s, your life is in a better place.

Don’t get me wrong I love trying a new place, but I’m not gonna be a sheep and just constantly exclaim “I love trying new places!!” Because I also love the places I’ve been to many times, and know the whole menu, and recognize the waiters etc. etc.

I love trying new places + have a list of places I’m slowly working through. But I’m realizing that tried & true places that have been around for +10 years are still standing for a reason. You’re usually paying a little more $, sure, but you’re getting consistency & quality & ambiance (Balthy at christmas time is heavenly). Minetta Tavern is a classic. The Odeon has its own cult following that’s well worth it. I’m sure places like Don Angie’s have the potential to be there in a decade, but until that happens I’ll be happy with my old fashioneds & nice napkins.

If you, like me, relive a memory until it becomes a part of you as surely as a bruise on your arm, blackout poetry may be for you! Took a landmark letter from a ways back and reduced, reused, recycled. Didn’t even have to write anything new! Pressed on my bruise for long enough, and the pain faded away. still left with my arm
